With the resounding success of the Greater Easterhouse Learning Network over the years and the huge impact this has had on ICT learning and usage throughout the community, it's no wonder that there are plans afoot to expand into new areas within the planning partnership boundaries.
With the support of GERA and the Glasgow Community Planning Partnership, John Wheatley College has already helped to establish a brand new learning centre at Sandyhills flats (with 10 computers) and Cranhill Community Project (14 computers). Each centre is also a flexible learning space.
Centre users are able to learn computing skills, from basic up to advanced, and other learning opportunities are available.
Work is well underway at FUSE in Shettleston Road (the old Shieling Bar) which is being converted into a Youth Cafe and learning centre providing supervised online access for a variety of youth groups in the area. In addition, a learning centre is being established at Carmyle, a welcome addition to the many communities of the East of Glasgow.
Behind these new ventures lies the hard work of College staff such as Craig Green and Brian McQuillan, and the excellent local volunteers who have established and nurtured community contacts and partnerships to help open and maintain the learning services at each centre. Well done to all concerned.
