Local residents throughout the North have consistently flagged up the need for more and better play areas for children and young people. In response, Glasgow Housing Association (GHA), Glasgow City Council Land and Environmental Services and the Local Community Planning Partnership (Local CPP) are working together to provide new and upgraded play areas in the North of the City.
David Hastings GHA Director of Investment and Regeneration explains: Glasgow Housing Association and Land and Environmental Services has been running a joint play area programme for three years now which has enabled local housing organisations and residents to develop and improve areas for children and young people to play or meet up. Additional funding from the Community Planning Partnership has helped us to expand the programme and create or refurbish 10 sites in the North.
The sites identified for new or refurbished play areas include:
- Robroyston Park in Barmulloch
- Balgrayhill Road in Springburn
- Rosemount Street in Royston
- Behind Fountainwell Square, Sighthill
- Bilsland Drive/Balmore Road in Possilpark
- Craigbo Avenue in Summerston
- Castlebay multi-story flats in Milton
- At a site to be confirmed in Molendinar
- Dorchester Avenue, Kelvindale
- Ruchill Park
